What you need before you start
Every balance-check method except the in-store one asks for two things. Both are printed on the card itself — on the back of a physical card, or in the email for an eGift Card.
Method 1: Check online (fastest)
- Go to ulta.com/guestservices/gift-cards.
- Find the balance check option on that page.
- Enter your gift card number and the PIN — the PIN is under the scratch-off coating on the back of the card.
- Your remaining balance is shown on screen.
Scratch the coating gently with a coin. Ulta will not look up a card online without the PIN, so a destroyed panel means an in-store visit.

Method 2: Check by phone
The automated line reads your balance back to you.
Method 3: Check in a Ulta Beauty store
Any associate at any US Ulta Beauty location can check the balance at the register. This is your fallback if the scratch-off panel is damaged and the PIN is unreadable.
Ulta Beauty gift card rules worth knowing
Most guides stop at the balance check. These are the terms that actually catch people out.

- Fees
- No fees are associated with use of the card. The only charge is optional expedited shipping on plastic cards ordered online.
- Where they work
- All US Ulta Beauty stores, ulta.com, and UB Marketplace.
- Where they do NOT work
- Not redeemable through DoorDash, Instacart, Uber Eats, or TikTok Shop — even when the order is Ulta product.
- Lost or stolen
- Not replaced without proof of purchase. Ulta is not responsible for unauthorised use.
- PIN location
- Under a scratch-off coating on the back of the card.
The marketplace exclusion is the one that surprises people — an Ulta order placed through a delivery app cannot be paid for with an Ulta gift card.
Avoid fake balance-check sites
A card number plus its PIN is everything needed to spend the card. There is no password, no account, no verification step. Anyone who collects those two fields can drain the balance in minutes, and because a stolen balance is not replaced, the money is simply gone.
Search results for gift card balance queries are full of look-alike pages that host their own entry form. A legitimate guide — this one included — sends you to the retailer's own site to type those digits. If a page asks you to enter the number and PIN on that page, close it.
