How to Check Your Macy's Gift Card Balance

What you need before you start
Every balance-check method except the in-store one asks for two things. Both are printed on the card itself — on the back of a physical card, or in the email for an eGift Card.
Method 1: Check online (fastest)
- Go to the gift card section of macys.com customer service.
- Enter the first 15 digits of the card number in the card number field.
- Enter the remaining digits in the separate CID field — Macy's splits the number across two boxes, which catches a lot of people out.
- Enter the 4-digit security code from the back of the card.
That split-field layout is the most common reason a Macy's balance check fails. If the card is rejected, check you have not typed the whole number into the first box.

Method 2: Check by phone
The automated line reads your balance back to you.
Method 3: Check in a Macy's store
Any Store Colleague can check the balance at the register, at Macy's, Macy's Backstage or Market by Macy's. Bring the physical card or the e-gift card email.
Macy's gift card rules worth knowing
Most guides stop at the balance check. These are the terms that actually catch people out.

- None. Macy's states the gift card never expires, and e-gift cards carry the same policy.
- Where they work
- Macy's, Macy's Backstage, Market by Macy's, and macys.com — for merchandise and in-store services.
- Not redeemable for
- Cash, except where law requires it, and cannot be applied to a Macy's credit card account.
- Reloading
- In stores only. You cannot add value to a Macy's gift card online.
- Lost or stolen
- Replaced only with proof of purchase, and only for the balance Macy's records show.
- Security code
- A 4-digit code on the back. Macy's warns never to share it with anyone who contacts you unsolicited.
- More than five cards
- Applying more than five gift cards to one order needs a call to 1-800-289-6229.
The reload-in-store-only rule and the five-card limit are both worth knowing before you plan a big order.
Avoid fake balance-check sites
A card number plus its 4-digit security code is everything needed to spend the card. There is no password, no account, no verification step. Anyone who collects those two fields can drain the balance in minutes, and because a stolen balance is not replaced, the money is simply gone.
Search results for gift card balance queries are full of look-alike pages that host their own entry form. A legitimate guide — this one included — sends you to the retailer's own site to type those digits. If a page asks you to enter the number and PIN on that page, close it.
